Saving and Adding Tax Code


Sales Tax Codes help simplify the complex rules associated with different taxable and non-taxable goods and services. Each code represents a category of products or services and each taxable item you sell will need to be assigned a tax code. In this step we’ll add only the tax codes you’ll need for your products to CustomBooks™.

  1. Navigate to Sales Tax → Sales Tax Codes (Avalara).
  2. Click Add Avalara System Tax Codes.
  3. Search for the product you sell and double click to add the tax code.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Repeat for each product category that is sold by your company.

You may also add a new tax code if the one you are looking for isn’t included in AvaTax. To add a custom tax code:

  1. Log in to your Avalara Account.
  2. Click on Company.
  3. Click Tax Codes.
  4. Click New.
  5. Enter the Tax Code, the Tax Type and a Description.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Go back to CustomBooks™ and Save the Tax Code to your account by using the instructions above.
