Item Categories allow you to group products and services for better organization, pricing, and reporting. They can be used alongside the Price Matrix to create a complex pricing structure or to simplify the entry of pricing data in CustomBooks™. Once defined, Item Categories can be associated with items and applied to the Price Matrix for pricing purposes.

This video shows how to create Item Categories in CustomBooks, assign a category to an inventory item, and use categories to help organize items in lists and reports.
To create an Item Category, go to Inventory > Item Categories, select Create > New, enter a description, and save the category. You can then open an item, select the category from the category drop-down, and close the item. The assigned Item Category appears in the item list and can be used to sort and group items in lists and reports.

To get started, go to Inventory and click on Item Categories.
Click Create and then select New. Enter your description and click Save.
Once you've created your Item Categories, you can easily add them to your Inventory Items. Go back to Inventory, and this time, open Items.
Open one of the items in CustomBooks, click on the category drop-down, and choose the category you want for the item. Then click Close.
Now, you can see the Item Category in your list of items, and it will be available as a way to sort and group items in lists and reports in CustomBooks.
